Dirk Nowitzki Abandons Trophy Presentation, Leaves Poor ESPN Reporter Stranded

Poor Doris Burke. First, someone in the production truck left her flailing in the wind over the weekend, and it looked like she didn’t know she was on TV. Then last night, as she tried to interview Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks after they accepted the Western Conference trophy, she quickly realized that, well… they had already left.

Of course, some members of the Dallas media are interpreting this early exit as a “William Wallace moment.” Since the Mavs are on an unstoppable quest to bring home the Larry O’Brien trophy, they argue, Dirk’s Irish Goodbye on ESPN’s Western Conference afterparty was a calculated move to let everyone know that there’s work to be done. Okay, fine. But they didn’t have to be dicks about it.

I took as we are focused and not done yet. Dirk’s team mates picked up on it too and when they seen him leave they followed suit. All of them kept things even keel and acted like they have been there before. In fact… they left so focused about task at hand and in future… they almost forgot something…somebody had to tell Jason Terry who was last to leave to take the trophy with him. That says we are focused, been here before, we want a better result this time. Maybe Dirk seen “The Decision” and thought one interview was enuff as he did do one quick interview right when game ended?
