The Very Sweaty, Very Peculiar Thing That Happened Late In Last Night’s Mavs-Thunder Game
This will be infuriating to watch if you had a rooting or gambling interest in the Dallas Mavericks. But you kinda sorta have to give credit to the Oklahoma City Thunder for sneakily attempting to “ice” Dirk Nowitzki during last night’s Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals.
Nowitzki stepped to the line, down two, to take the biggest free throw shots of the series, with only a few seconds remaining in regulation. After sinking the first, there’s a mysterious pause in the action.
They didn’t think to mop before the pair of free throws? It just occurred to them to do their only task in between free throws, essentially interrupting the course of the game at its most climactic apex? Most importantly, how did they get away with this?
Fine, they got away with it. This would be a bigger story if Nowitzki missed the free throw and or the Mavericks ultimately lost, but he’s the German Moses.
