Shit Just Got Real: Village People Singer Bans Clippers From Playing ‘YMCA’ At Home Games

  • Rick Chandler

Want to really hurt Donald Sterling where he lives? Don’t boycott Clippers games — simply ban his use of the Village People’s signature hit, “Y.M.C.A.” at the Staples Center. Victor Willis, who is the cop in the iconic 1970s musical group, is “furious” with the Clippers’ owner over his alleged racist comments. Willis wrote the song and owns the rights, and he’s banning it from the Staples Center during Clippers games, he says.

Remember Donald, They have everything for young men to enjoy, you can hang out with all the boys …

TMZ:

Victor’s rep tells us the singer is dead serious about the ban — and will be sending an official notice to Donald Sterling first thing tomorrow morning.

That’ll teach him.

“Y.M.C.A.” was released in 1978, and fans have been spelling out those four letters with enthusiastic body movements ever since … especially between quarters at NBA games. Let’s relive the glory with the original music video.

Evidently Willis is a big NBA fan, because he had some advice for the Clippers team as well.

Some claim that “YMCA” is never played at Clippers’ games anyway … I don’t know. All I’m sure of is that I would pay more than you might think to see Donald Sterling sing a karaoke version of “In the Navy” while dressed as the construction worker from The Village People.
