Tyreke Evans Arrested At Gunpoint For Being Fast, Furious (Video)

Tyreke Evans was arrested for speeding on May 31st, and on Friday police released video of Evans zipping through traffic at over 100 miles an hour on interstate 80. The video clearly shows Evans’ Mercedes S550 bobbing and weaving like he’s in “Tokyo Drift” or something, and the video ends with him being arrested at gunpoint near his Sacramento home.

The arresting officer drew his gun because Evans’ windows were tinted, and from that point forward Evans complied with the police. On July 23 he pleaded no contest to reckless driving.

The arrest is also causing something of a media stir in the land of a thousand cow bells. It’s obviously a big deal because a local athlete was doing 130 on the highway, but also because one journalist is taking a decidedly hard line on Evans, and her judgment may be clouded.

Ailene Voisin wrote that Evans, “isn’t ready to be [the Kings] floor leader when he’s so oblivious to his surroundings.”

Sactown Royalty, SB Nation’s Kings blog, thinks there’s a bias at work.

Voisin is becoming too blinded by her dislike of Evans to report on him while making any semblance of sense. She’s losing touch with reality, and Kings fans who read The Bee looking for actual insight and thoughtful commentary are the losers.

Whatever the case, Evans trying out his turbo boost in Memorial Day traffic probably wasn’t the smartest idea. Here’s to hoping he learns to use the R button on the basketball court only.
