Want To End Your Career With A Bang? Bring A Loaded Gun Into An Airport

Having failed to make a team last season after having his knee restructured, we already assumed Darius Miles’ career in the NBA was over. This pretty much confirms it.
According to StLToday.com, Miles pulled a Shaun Rogers, and carried a loaded gun into…wait for it… an airport!
Miles, 29, was arrested about 3:30 p.m. after Transportation Security Administration personnel discovered the weapon during an X-ray screening at the airport, according to information from a TSA spokeswoman and a jail official.
It was unclear whether the loaded gun was found inside luggage or whether Miles had been carrying the weapon.
If true, Miles’ latest off-the-court problems will likely bring an official end to his playing days in the NBA. After being drafted No. 3 overall out of high school by the Clippers in 2000, Miles was traded to the Cavaliers in 2002, who then shipped him off to the Portland Trail Blazers in 2003.
In Portland, Miles battled with head coach Maurice Cheeks. He was hit with a 10-day suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, before suffering what doctors perceived to be a career-ending injury for which he underwent microfracture knee surgery.
Much to the chagrin of the Blazers, who were forced to pay Miles $18 million if he returned to play 10 more career games, he signed with the Boston Celtics during the 2008 preseason. Despite not making the team, a pair of 10-day contracts from the Memphis Grizzlies helped him make his money. Miles then failed to make the Charlotte Bobcats after playing with the team in the 2010 preseason.
But if that didn’t officially end his career, this should, as it’s hard to imagine another team taking on Miles in such a high-risk, low-reward situation. And while his career will likely be characterized by controversy and disappointment, we’ll always choose to remember him for his cameo role in Van Wilder.
