David Letterman To Charles Barkley: “Do You Know Anything About College Basketball?”

Note to Charles Barkley: if you at any point encounter an older man who has or once had a CBS affiliation, prepare to have your college basketball knowledge questioned. We know Billy Packer’s skeptical, and last night while appearing on Late Show with David Letterman, Barkley faced a similar line of questioning from the iconic late-night host.

Unlike with Packer, however, Barkley laughed it off when Letterman posed the question, “Do you know anything about college basketball?” Barkley also had a simple response to the doubters – “Basketball’s basketball” – and repeated once again that knowing every player’s name isn’t important for his job (not to mention doesn’t prove whether or not one knows anything about basketball).

Also, in an amusing subplot, Letterman had no idea Butler was in the tournament this year (not only that, stated with conviction that they weren’t in it), until Barkley corrected him. And Barkley also used the platform to urge the NCAA to do a better job of making sure players at least get on the right track to graduating (Barkley himself doesn’t plan on going back and getting his degree because he’s already “loaded”).
