VIDEO: 5-4 Small-School Guard Breaks World Record For Half-Court Shots In A Minute…Again

Eric Valentin doesn’t play much for Wisconsin-Green Bay: the 5-4 guard averages just 1.2 points per game. But if you have even one particular thing you do especially well, no matter how obscure a skill it might seem, you have a chance of making your mark somehow. And it’s safe to say Valentin can shoot half-court shots “especially well.”

He does it so well, in fact, that he’s the new world-record holder in the category of “most half-court shots made in under one minute.” He accomplished the feat earlier this month by sinking eight. Here’s what that looked like:

As Quickish pointed out, the rally at the end really pushes the record to another level, considering Valentin had to essentially come from behind to get it. A fair question, though, posed by Wired Playbook’s Erik Malinowski, is: how long will the record last? Malinowski points out that Chris Paul held the record as recently as three years ago with four makes. Didn’t take long for that record to fall, and fall hard.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that one of the prime contenders to break Eric Valentin’s record might be…Eric Valentin. He’s clearly capable of hitting more than eight with a few good bounces, and also, there’s the not-insignificant fact that this wasn’t even the first time he broke the record. We wouldn’t be surprised at all if Valentin re-breaks the record at some point in the not-too-distant future.

And that’s why, in the event Valentin’s record does fall, we’d encourage him to try again. After all, if literally being the best in the world at one of the most fun plays in basketball isn’t living the dream…is anything?
