An Unfortunate Sideline Reporter Named Stan Catches The Brunt Of Frank Martin’s Frustration

Kansas State head coach Frank Martin is known as one of the most intimidating guys in college basketball. And that’s not just because he’s often seen making faces like this. And this. And this. And this. No, he’s an imposing presence even when he’s standing there clapping. Or sitting there posing. Hell, even when he’s sitting there smiling, it’s easy to tell Frank Martin is not the type of person you’d want to run into when he’s in a bad mood.

Well, yesterday, Martin’s Wildcats lost to Baylor, 75-73. Sure, Baylor is undefeated and ranked fourth nationally, but it was still a loss. Frank Martin does not enjoy losses. He also does not enjoy having to speak to reporters in the immediate aftermath of losses, and if this postgame chat with poor Fox Sports sacrificial lamb reporter Stan Weber (UPDATE: a commenter points out Martin and Weber actually know each other well; still, Martin can’t be much fun to deal with after a loss) didn’t include any of this, it was unsettling in its own right:

Even without the screaming, the Martin experience keeps you on your toes. While of course the screaming isn’t pleasant, you expect it. In a way, it might even be a relief when it happens. At least when he gets it out of the way, you’ve experienced his wrath and lived to tell the tale. You know you can handle it. But when he’s just quietly seething, when you know he’s holding back an explosion, and he’s also right next to you…we don’t envy Weber, let’s say that.

I think the writer missed something here.  Stan Weber is also the K-State radio reporter/announcer. Frank and Stan are friends, they know each other very well.
