Bracket Outrage! Jay Bilas Calls Selections Of UAB, VCU “Indefensible”

The NCAA Tournament selection committee has unveiled its final bracket, and you know what that means: time for some good old fashioned righteous anger.

This year the two teams that college hoops analysts are most up in arms about making the tournament are UAB (only one top 50 RPI win) and VCU (went 3-5 in February). And nobody was quite as mad as ESPN’s Jay Bilas.

In addition to calling the selections of UAB and VCU “indefensible,” Bilas questioned whether the selection committee “knows if the ball is round.” Yikes.

Here’s video, courtesy of ESPN.

I’m sure Shaka Smart has some round balls for Jay Bilas…

  • april

Heck yeah! in your face bilas hahahahaha RAMS RULE

  • Littlem1022

VCU won so I guessJay Bilas isn’t as great a sports commentator as he thinks he is in his own mind. Go VCU hope you win again to see what Jay Bilas has to say then.

Where, oh where is Jay Bilas……? Tell him his dinner has just arrived….a big ‘ol plate of hot, steaming CROW !
Come and get it, pal !!! Chow down !

  • Tmackrf

    Jay Bilas is a POS.

  • mary e

I hope Jay Bilas watched the VCU/Purdue game with Dick Vital and come out to apologzied to the RAMS!!

Bilas always said they could win in the tourney, but that is much different than being given an opportunity they did not earn. They flat out did not deserve a bid… now that they are in, everybody is giving them credit. Bilas said virtually the exact same thing I did on Monday. There is no defense for them being in the tournament at the expense of Colorado… or Virginia Tech, among others.

Um, yeah, Virginia Tech did great in their 2nd round loss in the NIT. VCU is in the Elite Eight, going further in the tourney than Duke. Um, yeah, you’re wrong and so is Jay Bilas. Who cares about your opinion, but Bilas is paid handsomely to not only give foolish analysis, but to do so emphatically. Bilas: “(The Selection Committe’s) decision is indefensible. I don’t think they even know if the ball is round.”

These VCU kids have more class and respect than Bile-ass by orders of magnitude. He has now been enshrined in the annals of blowhard tourney talkers like Billy Packer and his insistence that GMU didn’t deserve to be in the 2006 tourney. Boy were these hack-clowns proven right!

Virginia Tech lost in the second round of the NIT to WIchita State. Wichita State – is from a mid major conference and did not even get a mention in the ESPN (the E being for big EAST). VCU is a VERY good team and quite obviously deserved their bid.

  • Swamp

Bilas is a BCS blowhard. Him and all the rest of the BCS blowhards can kiss off. 2 midmajors in the final 4 and one of them will be in the NC game. Maybe a little more parity than BCS fans like to admit. 11 teams from the big East was a joke as was 7 from the Big Ten

  • Syandamu

Jay Bilas is a loser! He opens his big mouth and questions the integrity of selection committee?! Dick is much better analyst despite his picks are wrong but boy this Jay guy is an idiot and wonder how he is going to backup his stupid comment VCU does not belong in NCAA.

BTW our president is loser as he picked all the #1s to make it to final four. He was a rookie in politics before becoming US president. Wonder why he did n’t give chance to rookie school in the tournament?! Any thoughts??

  • david

Blah Blah Blah, Jay. Blah Blah Blah. You talk too much. You ought to get your hear out of you know where and learn something about sports.

  • Fcpkid

Jay Bilas’ comments on the selection of VCU: “These are horrible decisions…I wonder if some people on the committee know if the ball is round. These were bad decisions, they’re indefensible.”

And the nightmare continues for Bilas as VCU just keeps proving him woefully wrong. It’s not just that Bilas thought that VCU was unworthy, but he was vicious about it. Calling the decision horrible and trashing the intelligence of the committee. I hope somebody does a YouTube remix of his ridiculous quote with shots of VCU bulldozing their way to the Final Four.

Bilas, indeed the ball is round, and so is your balding head! Too bad the brain inside it is about the size of a gumball.

  • Abc

THIS VIDEO IS OUT OF CONTEXT!! they also said that it doesnt matter how they do IN the tournament, its about how you did during your season! VCU didnt even have a selection party because they did not think they even had a chance so if they themselves didnt believe they should be there why would a sports commentator.

  • IseethefutureKEMBA4CHamp

the only thing that having these low seeds in the final four proves is that all these one and done college players have made it difficult for big conferences to keep together dominating teams. the balance is great for college basketball because it gives everyone hope that they can make it to the tourney and win it. unfortunately there is still a team out there that has way to much talent and will not be stopped. UCONN will win it all with KEMBA WALKER.

  • Randomap

VCU didn’t have a selection party because they thought the committee whould screw them like they had when they’ve had a more impressive season than this past. Often the media says the CAA regular season Champ will need to win the CAA tournament to get in. How does this mean they didn’t think they deserved to get in? How do people draw these insane conclusion. Take a class in logic. If they’ve made it to the Final Four how does that not justify there entrance? If they’d lost everyone would say that proves they shouldn’t have been included. Stop believing all the media bull!
