Mike Wilbon To Tony Kornheiser: “Stop Slurpin’ The Dukie”
From the fallout of last night’s NCAA Tournament action to Jim Tressel being in even more trouble, today offered its fair share of intriguing sports storylines. We wouldn’t, therefore, have guessed that the most interesting line from today’s Pardon the Interruption would be about a play from one of those NCAA games that ultimately didn’t matter. But life is full of surprises, is it not?
Hosts Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon were debating the merits of a particularly impressive-looking blocked shot by Duke’s Mason Plumlee. Kornheiser raved that it was a clean block, while Wilbon said that “[Plumlee's] body hammered the kid.” But that was nothing next to his initial rebuttal, delivered at the 0:24 mark:
“Stop slurpin’ the Dukie.” He said it, not us. And we really hope the possibility raised – jokingly, we hope – by SportsGrid’s own Dan Fogarty (that Wilbon meant “dookie”) is not the case, because if so, COME ON, GROSS, MAN.
The great thing about it, though, is “Stop slurpin’ the Dukie” is plenty crazy, and oddly suggestive, all on its own. And we can’t help but be surprised with the total lack of any reaction from Kornheiser. Crack wise – or at least a smile – back at him, Tony.
