NBA Prospect Says ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt Helped Him Decide To Enter Draft

Jordan Williams has decided to forgo the final two years of his eligibility at the University of Maryland in order to enter the NBA draft. He credits ESPN personality Scott Van Pelt as a major help toward reaching that decision.

Williams said Van Pelt “was a big factor in helping me make my decision. Just giving me feedback, what he thought about it. Just trying to make me make the right decision. He did a great job, and I give him a lot of credit for going out of his way.” Who knew?

Apparently, not even Van Pelt himself. He tweeted, “No idea the context. I certainly had nothing to do with choice he made.” He would again tweet that it’s “just not accurate.”

This is how Williams described Van Pelt:

A great guy; a wonderful person. Always trying to reach his hand out and help, even when he doesn’t have to. He’s always using his knowledge and using who he knows to help me out.

Someone’s not telling the truth. Frankly, based on the completely different takes, it’s not silly to ask if they’ve ever met. I’m really going to enjoy Williams’ side of the story.
