The Streak Is Over: UConn Women Lose To Stanford, 71-59 (Video)

Before this season, UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma said he thought his team’s unbeaten streak would end this year. He was right. Last night, they went up against a perfect storm – road game, good, fired-up team in Stanford, and it was too much – the Huskies and their 90-game winning streak fell, 71-59.

The main reason for that: Stanford’s Jeanette Pohlen had a monster game (31 points), while UConn’s best player, Maya Moore, didn’t (14 points). 90 wins in a row is an unbelievable streak (credit Auriemma too – he’s an easy, fun guy to hate, but last night he was classy in defeat), but the most credit should go to Stanford for doing what 90 straight opponents couldn’t.
