This Is What The 1931 Rose Bowl Looked Like

You like video footage of old-timey sporting events, right? That color footage of the 1939 World Series made your day, didn’t it? Well, this one’s not in color, but brace yourself for footage of an even older sporting event: Washington State dug up 1931 Rose Bowl video from its archives.

The game was contested between Washington State and Alabama (there’s a Mike Price joke in there somewhere, waiting to be made); the Crimson Tide won 24-0, though Washington State possessed a distinct advantage in “coach name” thanks to head man Orin “Babe” Hollingbery. Additionally, the video drives home that indeed, football 80-plus years ago was a significantly different game – thanks in no small part to the lack of passing. See below:

And if there’s one thing Washington State football really, really won’t have thid fall, it’s a lack of passing. Speaking of, the above footage is great by itself, but we have an idea for Wazzu to really bring it to another level: running commentary from Mike Leach. We think he’d do it. And we think it would be brilliant.
