The Legend Of Andrew Luck Grew With This One-Handed Catch Last Night

Stanford beat UCLA last night, 45-19. It was a comfortable win, if not the complete domination of last year’s 35-0 Cardinal win over the Bruins. Stanford golden-boy quarterback Andrew Luck, similar to his team as a whole, put up numbers that were highly efficient if not spectacular, completing 23 of 27 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns, and running thrice for 11 more yards.

RELATED: Luck can dish out punishment, too.

But that doesn’t mean Luck didn’t have himself a Heisman moment…it just didn’t come when he was under center:

Yes, that was Luck making that grab. Yes, he did it with one hand. Another view:

And it wasn’t even the only terrific one-handed catch made by a Stanford player on that drive – tight end Coby Fleener capped it with a great grab on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Luck. Oh, and apparently at one point, Stanford coach David Shaw pretty much let Luck serve as his own offensive coordinator, because why not:

Shaw even allowed Luck to go up to the line of scrimmage in a hurry-up offense at one point and call his own plays.

No script. No questions. Just Luck.

“He called better plays than me,” Shaw said.

And what almost-annoyingly-modest thing did Luck have to say about his own catch?

“I’m sure it was incomplete at the next level.”

It would have been, yes…but safe to say, no one cares about that today.
