Arkansas Fans Are Pretty Cool

Arkansas is the country’s most disappointing team. They’re 1-2, and the win came in underwhelming fashion against Jacksonville State. They lost to Louisiana-Monroe. They lost to Alabama, which everyone figured they would, but they got dismantled even more thoroughly than anyone could have predicted. It’s not a fun time to be an Arkansas fan right now. How have their fans reacted? Giving up on the season? Walking around ashamed to admit their allegiance? Calling for John L. Smith’s head? Well, maybe there are some fans who’ve done those things, but the group you’ll see below sure hasn’t:

That’s right – they realized that as not-fun as it is to be an Arkansas fan right now, it’s that much less fun to be an Arkansas player. Imagine you’re one of those players. You went through the mini-hell of Bobby Petrino’s firing and the circus surrounding it. You regrouped, got to work preparing for the upcoming season, and had high hopes – you were a preseason top-10 team, after all. And now not only are your hopes for the year already going up in flames, but everyone who covers college football is talking about the wreckage your disappointing start is leaving behind.

If you’re an Arkansas player, you probably needed a show of solidarity from someone. A show of solidarity from that big a group? That has to make you extra-primed for Saturday evening, doesn’t it?* Not bad, Razorback Nation. Not bad at all.

Also, Arkansas fans: you might not be too high on him at the moment, but if anyone needs this kind of support worse than the players, it’s John L. Smith. Seriously. And for God’s sake, if you do show up to give him a surprise greeting, smile.

*Speaking of, coming from a Rutgers fan: thanks a lot, guys. Jeez.
