Boise State Receiver Catches Pass From…Himself (Video)
You never know what to expect with Boise State. Sure, you’ve seen their most famous tricky exploits, but they didn’t retire those types of plays after that epic 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Last night, during a 26-3 Las Vegas Bowl win over Utah, the Broncos pulled off one of their most impressive-looking gadget plays yet…and it didn’t even turn out like they wanted it to.
It all started with a harmless reverse from quarterback Kellen Moore to receiver Austin Pettis (who had a huge game, catching 12 passes for 147 yards and a score). The plan was clearly for Pettis to throw the ball, so he did. A Utah defender batted it up, and when it fell back down it was caught…by Pettis.
The end result of the play was a relatively harmless two-yard gain (a field goal followed), but it was without question one of the more interesting ways to gain two yards you’ll ever see. And the play was well worth it, if for no other reason than you can look at the play-by-play of the game and see the line, “Austin Pettis pass complete to Austin Pettis.”
