This guy is just plain awful to watch.  Look closely at the players when they are around their coach and you can tell they do not want to play for him.  Look at their faces and body language.  Notre Dame is going to have a long, terrible season. 

I sometimes wonder how Notre Dame could have such amazing recruiting classes and be so mediocre. Now I know more clearly than I knew before.

Can you blame him, they played absolutely awful, I’ve seen high school jv football teams with more discipline. Kelly is a very patient coach always finding a teaching point in everything, but everyone has their limits. Kelly had every right, and they deserved every bit of that playing the way they did.

You can tell all of that in just one game and a couple of sideline shots. You must be an extremely intelligent person. You also must be to young  to remember Lou Holtz on the sidelines at ND.

I’m amazed by the things some fans miss. The future of any program rests with recruitment. Tell me how many recruits will ND loose if the coach acts like this. ND continues to get players who may have had a connection with the school in the past, who can be lured by the tradition, but not the others. Take off the blinders and look at the faces of the players, they already felt bad enough. And since some think this is good coaching, what was the result a win or a loss. Look at the pro’s for further examples in the Philly area we had Ray Rhodes who thought that this kind of coaching is fruitful. And most recently Mike Singletary of the 49ers’s. I used to root against ND because of their arrogance. Now they are just exhibiting the worst of college football. Oh not to mention it is a religious institution. I wonder if Kelly could repeat those phrases in mass. Hypocrisies abound.

Three turnovers inside the ten.  Shows something may be lacking in the preperation and training.  Ripping a young man up on the sidelines in THIS manner is weak.  I doubt 75% is accurate, but that still doesn’t make it right.

Yes, You can blame him! To humiliate anyone in that situation is not a teaching point. Public humiliation is not a teaching method. It is an act of dominating a person who one deems as beneath them. It is bulling at its worse. This guy is a pig.

The University of Notre Dame should tell Mr. Kelly that such behavior is not permissable at Notre Dame.  Kelly should apologize to the team, and the assistant coaches should be trained to pull him away if he starts act in this way in the future.  In fact, if he acts this way in the future, he should be let go.

Kelly is a jerk, and ND is better than that. I am a Penn State grad/fan, and am disappointed in the direction of the Irish. Joe has done some stupid stuff too, but we blame that on age. Kelly needs another 45 years to get that excuse.

I’m a coach at the HS level.  I understand Kelly’s frustration.  The player wasn’t even looking for the ball. 

Having said that, there’s a time and a place for that kind of conversation….the sideline is NOT that time or place. 

Apparently having played for an elite high school program and an elite collegiate program I must be missing the big deal; and Notre Dame was a bitter rival to us at Michigan. Bo got in our faces and said things that would make a sailor blush. I loved that man to death. Of course, he’s a saint and has never done wrong nowadays.

I know Brian Kelly personally and the guy is great. I also had the privilege of going to their spring game and talking with their recruits and players as my son is currently being recruited by them as a sophomore. We’re hoping Michigan offers too, but Coach Hoke hasn’t come calling yet.

Seeing a whole lot of people who never put on pads do talking here.

Jim – I feel sorry for your kid if you think that getting in a kid’s face and screaming at him,  makes someone a “great guy”. 

While I think the jury is still out on Brian Kelly and whether he will leave a legacy of winning at ND, I do wonder how the Admin at the school feel about all those close-ups of Kelly dropping F-Bombs and the like during the broadcast. He is a bit of an embarrassment to a Catholic school. That TV contract is a blessing & a curse. Between their sloppy performance and their coach’s reaction – they will have a tough time recruiting going forward.

I have no sympathy for the players that Kelly recruited. He was the same way at Cincinnati, treated the players the same way, so they should have known what they were in for. I feel sorry for those that he inherited from Weis……Oh wait….I don’t feel sorry for them either.

Kelly is one of the most respectable coaches in the country. He’s won with the Right Kind of Guys, he’s made sure that they’re ready to not just be great football players, but great workers, fathers, husbands, etc. To call him an ass clown is an insult to him, the Notre Dame fanbase, and you. You’re lack of intelligence amazes me, and to single out a guy who wants nothing but the best for TJ Jones, is just plain rotten. It’s guys like you who disgust me. Irish haters are bad enough, but it’s a whole different thing to disrespect coach Kelly and the way he does his job.

Alright. I’ve heard just about enough from each and every one of you sh*theads who dare single out Brian Kelly. He is one of the most respected coaches in the nation. He’s dedicated his life to making sure young men are winners on and off the football field. That is something you can..no… MUST respect. Despite this, Kelly is human. I can’t say I blame him for going off like that, the team played horribly. It’s his job to win, it’s their job to win, and they were not doing it. And this isn’t targeting the Michigan guys, we’ll settle it on the field, and yes Kelly’s seat is a little warmer now (But I think Irish fans have to be patient, he’s still building his team), but it’s the people who are calling him a pig, or an ass clown that this is being targeted at. 

Lou Holtz used to chew out his players the same way then pat them on the helmet, shoulder or backside.  I have had coaches yell at me the same way but did not ‘give up’ on my team or myself.  I tried to play better, smarter and think about the mistakes I made not to make them again.  If these student-atheletes cannot take a tongue lashing then go back home!

BK did his best in the offseason as he always does. these guys just didnt show up to play and they kept that up the whole first half. I was so pissed I was cussing at the tv, I don’t blame BK one bit. gettin the point accross

Really? Your assumption is silly. Schools around the country universally use lifts to tape practices. What happened was an unfortunate accident. ND did the honorable thing and has accepted responsibility without any legal wrangling. In addition, they developed and piloted a program on lift safety, which was just released last week. Don’t blame Kelly personally for Declan’s death. It is just plain rediculous on your part.

In this day and age everyone needs a pat on the back. No one should ever know that they screwed up, but the fact they tried is all that matters. I’m all for praising effort, but everyone is so soft now-a-days (this is coming from 25 yr old). When I grew if I did something well I heard about it. If I screwed up I learned why never to do it again.

I have watched and heard many high school coaches behave the same way for many sports…not just football. And I believe Jim thinks he’s a great guy based on a multitude of other characteristics. Head football coach of any university doesn’t solely define him as a person….it’s the other life living characteristics that also define him.
