Is This Football’s Wildest Touchback Ever? (Video)

Normally, a touchback is one of the most boring plays in football – a kick returner fields the kickoff in the end zone, kneels down, and there you have it. Woo-hoo? But every so often, a touchback occurs in a much crazier way…and the king of such plays might have happened in last night’s game between Cincinnati and North Carolina State.

N.C. State was driving, already up 14-0. And they looked like they were about to score again when quarterback Russell Wilson threw a pass that was tipped by an N.C. State receiver…then tipped again by a Cincy defender…then caught by the same N.C. State receiver…then fumbled…then kicked around in the end zone…then finally recovered by Cincy.

Video of the wackiness is below. One highlight: the announcer tensely saying, “Over the midd-u-u-u-u-u-u-lle…” while the ball is in the air, like he’s been taken over by John Sterling. A fantastic sequence all around, but Cincy couldn’t capitalize enough on it – they lost the game 30-19.

H/T Reddit. The internet is smart.
