College Football Player Kisses Boyfriend, Is Kicked Off Team For Being Gay

North Dakota State College of Science may be a small junior college, but it finds itself embroiled in scandal after head coach Chuck Parsons dismissed linebacker Jamie Kuntz for being gay. Or at least that’s what everyone’s assuming, even if the coach chalks it up to a case of lying instead.

NDSCS was in Pueblo, Colorado, for a game against Snow College, and Kuntz, who was previously diagnosed with a concussion, was not dressed to play. That’s when the “incident,” if we can even call it that, went down.

Via The Stranger:

“Kuntz had a concussion and wasn’t supposed to go to Pueblo but at the last minute Kuntz was tapped to film the game. Kuntz’s boyfriend, who lives in Denver, met Kuntz in Pueblo and sat with him in the otherwise deserted press box while Kuntz filmed the game.

‘We were getting destroyed,’ says Kuntz, ‘the game was a total blowout. And I guess I got bored and so I kissed my boyfriend and some of my teammates saw us.’”

Alright, maybe not the smartest move, hanging out with a significant other while on duty for the team. But it’s a tisk-tisk foul, maybe a slap on the wrist at best. And then everything spiraled out of control.

“The next morning Kuntz’s coach called him for a meeting.

‘He said he didn’t care what people did in their personal lives,’ recalls Kuntz, ‘but it was a big mistake to do that on a football trip. I said, yeah, I made a big mistake and I apologized again for lying. Then he handed me a letter and said he was kicking me off the team because what I did was ‘detrimental’ to the team and I was a ‘distraction.”

The coach made a big point of emphasizing that it was due to this conduct (supposedly) detrimental to the team, but most have seen through this facade and chalk it up to a simple case of homophobia. Outsports in partiuclar is outraged, and had this to say about the incident.

“Kissing someone during a game isn’t a distraction unless it’s a ‘gay kiss.’ And even if it were a distraction, a slap on the wrist is more than enough to get the point across. Kicking him off the team for such a minor offense comes from one place and one place only: homophobia.”

It’s hard to argue otherwise, especially in light of other facts of the case, including multiple players with arrest records and other shenanigans on their rap sheets. For every step forward we take in ridding the homophobic outlook of sports as a whole, incidents such as these keep popping up. If Kuntz kisses a woman, are we having the same conversation?

The coach, understandably, has backpedaled into complete denial mode. Maybe he really isn’t homophobic (however unlikely that seems), and maybe he thought this was some twisted form of equal rights by sanctioning a player regardless of his sexual orientation. In any case, the ship can’t be righted until Kuntz is allowed back on the team. Though, it’s hard to imagine he’d want to play for that coach ever again.

BACK IN THE CLOSET QUEER~! Who needs a butt pirate on a g.d. football team??? The object is PASSING and CATCHING balls NOT SUCKIN’ ON ‘EM! There is too much gayness in this society already. If you watch television you’d think that 40 or 50 % of the population is queer, instead of like 3%. There are more blacks in America than gays but there isn’t a black on every show! There’s practically a homo on every show now, regardless of topic! BACK IN THE CLOSET YOU DEPRAVED SODOMITES, you’re dragging this society into the sewer!

Fuck you you homophobic moron. It seems like you think we all just want you soooo bad. It’s none of your f..ing business of others sexuality.

  • Bobby B

Gays are not in a protected class… The coach had every right to do what he did.

Kinda funny his last name is Kuntz

On its surface, the word “homophobic” would seem to be a misnomer, because no healthy male would ever fear a homosexual. However, an alternate definition of phobia is aversion, and that definition works because normal men are repulsed by homosexual perversion. In a little known way, therefore, “homophobic” retains some degree of legitimacy in public discourse.

@Bobby B and Keith Diggs: Sociologist here. Actually, on the spectrum of sexuality, gays, lesbians, and bisexuals represents closer to 13-15 percent of the population. In bonobo monkeys for example, there’s a 90% prevalence of bisexuality. Sexual diversity is naturally occuring phenomenon. War, gun violence, and finacial corruption are what is driving American society into the “sewer”, but you probably have less of a problem with that. I’m glad I live in Canada; gays are a protected class in this great country.

UNLESS he kicks off the players who have arrests –there is NO way that this coach is not homophobic AND which is more detrimental – a player in the courtroom or a gay player?
Sadly, as some of the other posters have shown, men in this country need to get a grip….As a female, trust me, a lot of you aren’t attractive—and I’m sure gay men feel the same way.

  • NC

Of course, a lot of guys like to watch girl on girl….so they’re not “repulsed” by that?
If it’s good for one gender, it’s good for another.
    I don’t really like to watch ANY public displays – male/female; male/male/ female/female

First let me say “every player”who has ever been arrested while playing for Coach Parso ns was kicked off the team.
Now the entire truth has not been told about this issue. This”player” was also seen by every one who cared to look, giving a hand job,, bending over in front of, and going to his knees during this game. If this was any player MY SON INCLUDED that is unacceptable.

  • get real

First off my brother plays for this kids team. Lets get things straight starting in high school if you are gay or straight you sign a contract going into a team that your significant other isn’t allowed at practice and you can’t make out or anything like that with them at games. It’s a distraction and when signed your saying you know the consequences and you know you will be kicked off the team! Period. That’s why you sign it so everything is straight forward. Second, what he is failing to mention is EVERYTHING he did with his boyfriend while in the pressbox. His teammates and coach saw him giving this man a hand job and he had his head in between his boyfriends legs. Boy or girl this was not acceptable and shouldn’t be tolerated. It’s not homophobia it’s intolerance for this kind of behavior. His boyfriend shouldn’t have been in the pressbox in the first place.

  • get deal

Also the arrested irrelevant players didn’t get arrested while on this team with this coach so that doesn’t need to even be mentioned . That kid was doing a job for his team. He’s a student athlete who represents his team, coach and school. If he was at work doing this, best believe he would be fired. Seeing that was very disturbing since it was in plain view.

if it’s none of my business didn’t why do lesbians and gays always go to such extremes to make sure that the general population knows with this sexuality is if it’s none of our business then keep it off the front page
