Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney Was Really Fired Up After Beating Auburn

Clemson got itself a big win today, overcoming an early 21-7 deficit to take down Auburn, 38-24. For Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, the game represented another step in overcoming Clemson’s reputation as a talented but generally-underachieving squad. He was excited about it, and didn’t try to hide it when talking about it after the game:

Well, Clemson does have an electrifying game-day atmosphere. We like the fire – and it seemed like the crowd of fans around him did, too. But Clemson has to do a lot more to really start fulfilling the promise of its typically terrific recruiting classes. Florida State visits them next week. Beating them would be a nice start…and imagine how nuts Swinney would go for that one.

Dabo needs to grow up. He sounds silly and disrespectful to his opponent. You don’t hear other quality coaches talking like that. A little class, coach? Please?

  • JGM I

Dover, you should go kick rocks!! What was disrespectful, please tell me.

  • Segsenn

Oh, please! Disrespect?  That was his EXCITEMENT and LOVE of Clemson Football speaking!  If you don’t KNOW Clemson, then you don’t understand!  Every head coach SHOULD be that excited when he speaks about his team!  I mean, really Dover, do you even watch football?

The guy is absolutely clueless. He was trying to sell this as if they were beating last year’s Auburn team that had Cam Newton, you know that guy that is absolutely tearing up the NFL right now and All-American Nick Fairley and 24 seniors on it. He kept talking about how this was the defending National Champions and how they were undefeated . . . um Daabo, they struggled to beat Utah State and Mississippi State.

Don’t worry this is the same Clemson team, whose fans were booing them at halftime against I-AA Wofford and Troy. Clemson always has a good win early in the season to get their fans’ expectations up before they fall apart because their head coach can’t manage the locker room properly because he’s too busy putting on a ridiculous show for the cameras. Oh and Clemson will lose for the 3rd year in a row to South Carolina this year. The great thing about the state of football at Clemson is that the athletic dept. and their fans have fully embraced mediocrity proven by the fact that Daabo is still around after last year. The guy must know where the bodies are buried.

Dover, this has to be the dumbest comment on college football I’ve ever read.

Bravo Dabo… I love the enthusiasm!

He acts like he just won a game against a good team or something.

A shame considering Auburn is two lucky plays away from being 0-3 on the season (including losses to two bad teams, Utah State and Mississippi State).
