Watch As Rutgers Coach Greg Schiano Dedicates Bowl Win To Eric LeGrand

  • Glenn Davis

Rutgers closed out a season that’s become more or less the norm under coach Greg Schiano – solid, a vast improvement over what the program used to be, but ultimately with enough disappointing moments and bizarre no-shows that fans are left wondering what could have been – in solid fashion yesterday with a 27-13 Pinstripe Bowl win over Iowa State. There were many positives to take away: Rutgers running back Jawan Jamison recorded 131 yards and two touchdowns, the defense held Iowa State to a 17-for-39 passing performance and just over three yards per rush, and redshirt freshman receiver Brandon Coleman again flashed vast potential with an 86-yard touchdown catch.

Despite all these promising on-field developments, though, one moment from after the game was what especially stood out. That moment: Schiano dedicating the win to paralyzed former player Eric LeGrand – who was in attendance – during his postgame on-field remarks:

LeGrand’s smile…it just gets you every time. And say whatever else about Schiano, but you can’t say he hasn’t shown he genuinely cares about LeGrand throughout all this. One more feel-good moment in a story increasingly full of them…and combined with the freshman-laden basketball team’s 85-83 upset win over Florida the night before, pretty good couple nights for Rutgers sports fans.
