Today In “We’re Not Sure If Jerry Sandusky’s Attorney Wants To Win This Case”

We haven’t heard terribly much from Jerry Sandusky’s defense attorney Joe Amendola in a while. This is probably good news for Sandusky’s defense team, but bad for the rest of us, since in a trial consisting of one horribly disturbing detail that no one would ever want to hear after another, at least Amendola’s buffoonery has provided moments of levity (remember 1-800-REALITY?), not to mention just plain horrible reasoning (the “hotel” defense). Not to mention that most people want to see Sandusky convicted, so seeing this guy going around screwing everything up provides them with a measure of comfort.
Well, as of this morning, Joe Amendola is back in full force. His defense team is presenting its case this week, and with that comes being in spotlight. With the spotlight comes attempts to shamelessly attention-grab, and Joe Amendola is not missing out on any opportunities to shamelessly attention-grab. So when one reporter asked Amendola if Sandusky would testify, Amendola said this:
#Sandusky attorney Amendola just compared his case to a “soap opera…like General Hospital, change that, like All my Children.”
— abc27 Sandusky Trial (@abc27Sandusky) June 19, 2012
No, comparing a trial involving over 50 counts of sexual abuse of children to a soap opera wasn’t enough for ol’ Joe. He had to get specific with which soap opera it is, and he wasn’t stopping until he arrived at the creepiest one possible. And Amendola, remember, is no stranger to being as creepy as possible. Sleaziness, of course, doesn’t mean someone isn’t a good lawyer, but sleaziness plus making a mockery of the trial might. Amendola’s a cartoon. It’s almost impossible to believe he’s an actual lawyer. He’s… almost like something right out of a soap opera.
