Johnny Football Says He Feels ‘Like Justin Bieber Or Something’ At SEC Media Days
Johnny Manziel did actually compare himself to Justin Bieber at SEC Media Days today, and believe it or not, that’s not the most outlandish thing he said today. First, the Bieber quote, uttered today at the Hoover, AL, gathering of SEC coaches, players and media.
“The spotlight is 10 times brighter and 10 times hotter than I thought it was two months ago,” Manziel said.
“I guess I feel like Justin Bieber or something. I never thought it would really be that way.”
Also, Manziel said that Tim Tebow left him a phone message. Uh oh! Busted!
And earlier today Manziel talked with ESPN about his experience last week at Manning Passing Academy at Nicholls State University, which, according to reports, he turned into Project X during the off hours. This just in: Manziel says he did not miss a meeting last week because he was hung over from raucous partying the night before. It was all Motorola’s fault.
As you know, Manziel has been served a large helping of grief since missing meetings, and then being excused, from the Manning Camp. After being seen partying on at least one of the nights in question, Mr. Football was advised to go home — him saying it was because he was “ill”, and his father usin gthe word “dehydrated”.
But on Tuesday the younger Manziel said the reason he missed one meeting was because he overslept.
“I made a mistake and didn’t wake up in time when I should have, and that’s pretty much the end of that,” Manziel said. “Missing the meeting wasn’t anything due to the night prior. It wasn’t anything involved in that. It was just simply my phone died, I overslept, I woke up the next morning whenever I did, went and talked to them and it was kind of a mutual decision to get home and get some time to relax.”
Also, said Manziel, ‘I regret nothing!’
I’m still 20 years old, I’m still a sophomore in college, I’m still going to do things that everybody in college does and I’m going to continue to enjoy my life. Hopefully people don’t hold me to a higher standard than that,” Manziel said.
Mr. Football was a little more circumspect at SEC Media Days.
Asked if he was hungover, Manziel said, “Absolutely not.”
He did not answer a question about whether he consumed alcohol, but expressed regret for his departure.
“There’s no excuse for it. Absolutely my fault,” Manziel said.
“At the end of the day, I’m going to continue to make mistakes and the big thing for me is to learn from them and not make the same one twice.”
And what did Tebow have to say in that voicemail?
Manziel said he received a voicemail from Tebow the other night, but hasn’t gotten a chance to call him back yet. He plans to.
“Tebow’s a guy I really look up to,” Manziel said. “He’s an SEC legend. I can only hope I can reach that level and do the things he did at Florida.”
So what did Tebow’s message say?
“It’s just him calling to check in,” Manziel said. “Just get a chance to talk. It wasn’t really much more than that. Just a normal conversation.”
And if all that isn’t enough, there’s a huge storm system coming in. God must be pissed.
