This Is What A Massive Dust Storm Over Texas Tech’s Football Stadium Looks Like
Texas is experiencing an ongoing, severe drought that’s cost the state billions, contributed to devastating wildfires…and yesterday, led to an 8,000-foot-high dust cloud rumbling through Lubbock. The above photo was taken by Texas Tech athletic department staffer Scott Lacefield, and it is stunning. Reportedly, the wind gusts that kicked up this storm exceeded 70 mph at their highest. We’re glad we weren’t in Lubbock for this.
The craziest part: this is what the sky actually looked like. It’s one thing to know intellectually that the sky itself hasn’t really turned a foreboding rusty shade – it’s another entirely to be able to see that, were it not for the 1.5-mile-tall dust ball reducing your field of vision to next to nothing, it looks like it would be a lovely day. For another demonstration of this, see the video below. Let’s hope that place gets some rain, and soon.
