Wisconsin’s Montee Ball Can’t Quite Hurdle An Oregon Defender

Wisconsin lost the Rose Bowl yesterday, but Badgers running back Montee Ball finished up one of the truly great seasons for a college running back with a 32-carry, 164-yard, one-touchdown performance. For all his successes, though (and for Ball, this season was mostly one roaring success after another), it’s a play that didn’t entirely work out that stood out most immediately.
The play wasn’t a total failure. In fact, in the most important way (picking up a first down) it worked, and then some. But Ball tried to finish the play with a flourish – namely, hurdling Oregon safety John Boyett. And while Ball got impressive lift, it wasn’t enough to avoid taking a little chrome to the…well, here it is:
Ouch. Just another reason not to mess with those chrome helmets, which, in our humble opinion, owned. More than anything Oregon’s done with their uniforms, those things were like something from another planet. In this case, though, they were the only things keeping Ball down to earth. Oh, and if you’d like to see the play in gif form, via our own CJ Fogler, here:
