Referee Calls Penalty On “Everyone But The Center”; Announcers Amused

When TCU committed a false start in the first quarter of their matchup at Baylor Friday night, referee Randy Christal couldn’t pinpoint a single guilty player. So he charged all of them.

His announcement left ESPN announcers Joe Tessitore and Rod Gilmore in stitches, and led to a reference to this famous moment featuring ACC referee Ron Cherry (though Gilmore got the details a bit wrong):

My favorite ref call that I haven’t been able to find online is the ref calls a punt dead and then he explains it by going there was a whistle over there and points in a general direction or something. I can’t find the damn thing

He didn’t get the details wrong. You put up the wrong video. The original giving him the business was in 1986, Bills vs Jets.

Wow! Thanks. I’ve never seen that before in my life. I thought Ron Cherry originated the phrase.
