Report: Penn State Will Receive “Unprecedented Penalties” From The NCAA (UPDATE)

Penn State football as it was is dead and buried, at this point – I can’t imagine many parents wanting to send their kids to the scandal-embroiled school, espcially when recruits of Penn State’s (former) caliber probably have multiple offers on the table anyway. It would seem difficult, then, for the NCAA to hurt the program further – the damage has been done.

Then again, what does it say about the NCAA as an institutional body if it doesn’t act? It’s interesting that the term “lack of institutional control” is thrown around a lot these days, with Penn State now in the crosshairs. But really it’s the Mark Emmert-lead organization that can’t control any institution, with backwards regulations and self-righteous dogma that ignores reality.

Well, the NCAA is going with the former, levying sanctions against the football program and the university that sources call “unprecedented.” It’s hard to imagine anything worse than the death penalty, which, thanks to SMU, is not unprecedented, so we’re curious what these sanctions will involve, exactly. We do know, however, that Emmert has been granted the power to use “non traditional methods” of punishment. Whatever that means.

The decision will be announced tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.

UPDATE: ESPN is now reporting that the death penalty will NOT be the sanction levied against Penn State. But then comes this eerie statement from a source:

“NCAA president Mark Emmert has decided to punish Penn State with severe penalties likely to include a significant loss of scholarships and loss of multiple bowls, a source close to the decision told ESPN’s Joe Schad on Sunday morning.

But Penn State will not receive the so-called ‘death penalty’ that would have suspended the program for at least one year, the source said.

The penalties, however, are considered to be so harsh that the death penalty may have been preferable, the source said.”

What’s worse than the death penalty? Is everyone involved with Penn State football going to be stoned to death? Yep, that’s it. They’ll be stoned to death.

Paterno knew about everything that was done.   If I had only driven the get away car in a bank robbery would I be found guilty with the rest of the robbers?   I feel sorry for all the Alumni who have this school listed on their resume.   This is ugly and needs to be dealt with very harshly.    It must never be allowed to happen again!
