We Wouldn’t Have Guessed This Former TV Pundit Would Be The New Voice Of FIU Football
Rick Sanchez, formerly of CNN fame, is back in South Florida and has a new radio gig to boot. The controversial former news anchor has been hired to replace CBS4′s Jorge Sedano as the voice of Florida International University football.
Apparently Sanchez isn’t getting paid to do this, and is volunteering his time in an effort to “give something back” to the school that two of his sons currently attend.
Sanchez does possess some background in football, having accepted a scholarship to play for Minnesota State University Moorhead before transferring to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis on a journalism scholarship in 1979.
His predecessor insists there are no hard feelings, tweeting that he’ll be “doing whatever needs to be done to help out and anchor before & after games.” That’s not to say Sedano wasn’t surprised when he heard who his replacement would be:

Sanchez was fired from CNN last fall following controversial comments he made about Jon Stewart while appearing on a radio show. The disgraced anchor referred to the Daily Show host as a bigot, in addition to saying that Jews run the media and are not an oppressed minority. (He’s since said he was wrong, including in a column that appeared on our sister site Mediaite.)
