Tennessee Football Learns The Hard Way You Can’t Use 13 Players (Video)

Today’s Tennessee-LSU game gave us one of the wildest finishes we’ve seen in a while…well, the wildest two finishes. In the first iteration, Tennessee pulled off a massive upset on the road against the #10 team in the land. In the second – and the one that counted – Tennessee suffered a wrenching defeat, thanks in large part to some crazy happenings.

Going into that twice-played last play, Tennessee held a 14-10 lead and was on the verge of giving first-year coach Derek Dooley a signature win. And for a brief, glorious (for the Vols) moment, it looked like they got it – thanks to an insane sequence in which LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson couldn’t handle the snap inside the Tennessee 5, ending the game in crushing fashion for the Tigers.

Only that wasn’t the end. Officials went to review the play, and in doing so discovered that Tennessee had too many men on the field. But this was no ordinary “too many men on the field scenario” – the Vols trotted out not 12, but 13 players. Needless to say, the down was replayed.

And this time, things didn’t go so well for the Vols. LSU’s Stevan Ridley punched it in, and the fortunes of two teams did a 180.

If you’re still thinking this isn’t crazy enough for you: 1) really?; 2) How’s LSU’s T-Bob Hebert (even his name is wild, for crying out loud) illegally throwing his helmet to the ground (apparently unnoticed by officials) grab you? Yeah, this ending had everything going for it – including some seriously excited announcers. Video below.

Let’s also not forget that prior to that final play LSU tried a pass in which the QB fell back into the pocket looked for an open player and then threw the ball away in an area where no offensive player was present. LSU should have never been in position for a short dive if the grounding call had been called. With that said i can’t help but rejoice when the Vols screw up.
