A 7-Year-Old’s Letter Of Support To Kyle Williams Will Melt Your Heart Unless You Have No Soul

“Dear Mr. Williams: We just watched the Playoff game. I feel really bad for you but I wanted to tell you that you had a great season.”

So begins 7-year-old Owen Shure’s letter to 49ers return man, Kyle Williams. Williams, as you remember, fumbled not once, but twice in the 49ers’s crushing NFC championship loss to the Giants on Sunday. He was, for all intents and purposes, the goat, and on Monday morning, everyone in San Fran hated him. He was the brunt of some ugly messages on Twitter, and he reportedly received death threats.

After Owen Shure watched Kyle Williams fumble away everything, he started crying. And it wasn’t an average little kid cry, either; it was one of those little kid cries where each word is broken up by a separate sob.

So Sunday, as the Niners lost in memorably disheartening fashion, Owen became inconsolable. He was crying, saying of Kyle Williams, with the distinct sobs of a seven-year-old between each word, “But… why… did he… have to… fumble?”

I’m confident this was a “crying so hard there were snot bubbles” situation.

Owen’s dad, faced with a crying kid, did what any parent would do when faced with a crying kid: he tried to get him to stop crying. He suggested his son write a letter to Kyle Williams. His son, being 7 and all, paused, then asked: ”Can I write him a letter to make him feel better?”

Here’s what the letter looked like. The letter itself is on the left, its [sic'd] translation on the right, complete with the best p.s. you can possibly leave another person.

Dear Mr. Williams:

We just watched the Playoff game. I feel really bad for you but I wanted to tell you that you had a great season. you sould be very proud, so I wanted to say thank you.

I am your #1 FAN!

“you’re awesome”    for the sake of translation

    That’s not a translation. That’s a transliteration.

I feel the same as Owen Shure.   It wasn’t Williams or the team’s wish to lose the game. The 49ers team made tremendous progress this year, but just didn’t close this last game that would have taken them to the SB. They will come in next year stronger, faster and very competitive. Niner fan all the way.
