Adrian Peterson Doesn’t Actually Think Pro Football Is Modern-Day Slavery
Back in March, Adrian Peterson ruffled quite a few feathers when — days after the NFL lockout began — he compared the players’ situation to “modern-day slavery” in an interview with Shutdown Corner’s Doug Farrar.
Speaking on Friday, the Vikings running back retracted those remarks. Well, kind of … it’s hard to know for sure. See his first public comment about the controversial statement below:
“I regret using those words because obviously there is nothing, absolutely nothing that you can compare to slavery. It stands alone. It was something that I should have used better wording to put that out there. But it’s spoiled milk, it’s old and it’s over with.”
However, Peterson then went on to say his comments were “taken out of context,” which seems to be the default response among high-profile types following the realization that their own quote is being used against them.
In Peterson’s defense, he did admit “it was on me for putting it out there to make it available to be taken out of context.” Dissecting the original quote, it’s not readily apparent which part could have possibly been taken out of context. But whatever, it’s all “spoiled milk” according to Peterson — which we’re assuming is being used in the same context as “spilled milk.” Or is it?
