Oh No: Adrian Peterson’s Leg Injury Video Is Cringe-Inducing

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was knocked out of today’s game against the Redskins, and as you’ll see in the video below, it doesn’t look good. (UPDATE: Peterson has a torn ACL and MCL, and the timetable for his return isn’t known. Not shocking, and hopefully he can return for the start of 2012, but bad news for Peterson and the Vikings all the same.)

This is one of those “the human body is not meant to bend at that angle” type of videos, so if you’re squeamish, we’d recommend you not watch this thing. These videos are never fun to begin with, but when you throw in the fact that Peterson is the Vikings’ best player/face of the franchise/everything, it makes it even tougher. To top it off, Christian Ponder, Minnesota’s quarterback of the future, suffered a concussion on the same series.

There’s no info on the severity of Peterson’s injury yet, but it doesn’t look good (UPDATE: according to Fox Sports’ Dr. Mark Adickes, Peterson’s knee injury looks “significant,” and it’s likely that multiple ligaments have been damaged. Recovery time for these types of injuries can be anywhere from 6 weeks to 12 months). He was carted off the field to a nice ovation from Redskins fans. Video here.
