The Story Gets Worse: Albert Haynesworth Charged With Sexual Abuse

This has been a week of bad news about athletes in restaurants. First, the Derrick Caracter-IHOP-pregnant cashier ugliness, now this: yesterday, Redskins defensive tackle/infamous free agency bust Albert Haynesworth was charged with misdemeanor sexual abuse in a hotel restaurant in February.

You’re probably thinking whatever Haynesworth is accused of doing must be pretty creepy. You’d be right:

According to the U.S. attorney’s office, the government’s evidence shows Haynesworth slid a credit card down the front of the server’s dress and fondled her breast.

A. Scott Bolden, Haynesworth’s attorney, says his client is innocent. And while that may be true, and Haynesworth is entitled to a fair shot to prove such, etc., passages like the following from the AP’s writeup on the alleged restaurant incident make it tough to give him the benefit of the doubt:

Haynesworth is also currently facing charges in Virginia for allegedly punching a man during a road-rage assault. His trial is scheduled for May. At one point last summer, he was also involved in lawsuits from a bank, an exotic dancer, a man injured in an automobile accident and complaints from his ex-wife that he wasn’t paying for her health insurance or their children’s bills.

That’s an awful lot – to say nothing of this. And remember this? And there was more before that. Is this where we remind you the Redskins signed Haynesworth to a contract for $41 million guaranteed two years ago, and just apologize to Redskins fans for being Redskins fans? Yes. We believe it is.
