Andy Reid’s First Public Comments After Returning To Eagles: “My Son Wouldn’t Have Wanted It Any Other Way”

Eagles coach Andy Reid’s oldest son, Garrett, was found dead on Sunday at Eagles training camp. Obviously, the death of a child is the single worst thing a parent can ever have to deal with, and Andy Reid left the team following his son’s death. However, today he was back, just a day after Garrett’s funeral.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie predicted Reid’s quick return, and it’s no wonder: football coaches throw themselves into their jobs, and throwing himself into his job more than ever might be the only way to cope with the type of grief Andy Reid is experiencing. And listening to him talk after practice today, making his first public comments back on the job, it’s clear he’s not only comfortable with his decision, but thought it was the only decision:

We won’t pretend to have any idea what he’s going through, but he gave us a good idea of just how overwhelming the support he’s received has been, including from people all around the Eagles organization. And if you have that… who wouldn’t want to be around it?
