Brandon Jacobs Left The Giants Over “Just A Couple Hundred Thousand” Bucks

Former New York Giants fan punching bag/linebacker-sized running back Brandon Jacobs decided to switch coasts and sign with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason. Why’d he leave after winning his second Super Bowl? Jacobs explained on CBS’s Rome show:

“It was just money, that’s all it was, a couple hundred thousand [dollars],” Jacobs told Rome.

AN ATHLETE CHOSE A TEAM SOLELY BECAUSE OF MONEY? CRUCIFY HIM. HE’S NOT LIKE THAT STANDUP GUY LEBRON JAMES, CHOOSING BASED ON WINNING!

But seriously, before crazy, angry, irrational Giants fans freak out and call Jacobs “selfish” or something worse, note that he has a family. Jacobs is a 30-year-old running back who’s already in decline. He doesn’t have too many contracts left. Jacobs might sound like he doesn’t think a couple hundred thousand bucks is a lot, but it’s a couple hundred thousand dollars. It’ll come in handy when he’s retired in his early 30s.

I can’t force you not to hate Jacobs, Giants fans, but he’s not crazy for taking an extra “couple hundred thousand” dollars. Although maybe I don’t have to: many of you are probably happy to see him gone. Seems like the Giants themselves weren’t too upset. Oh, and if you want more proof he’s not the Devil, Jacobs got (deservedly) good press, like, three weeks ago. I SWEAR.
