Cardinals Coach Bruce Arians Sounds Like An Idiot Trying To Belittle Chip Kelly’s Offense
Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians is trying to smack-talk the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the teams’ Sunday matchup, but he’s really awful at it. Here’s his attempted burn of Chip Kelly, discussing “the read-option offense.”
“I still think it’s a great offense,” Arians told Philadelphia reporters this week, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “It’s a great college offense when you put a great athlete back there.
“But when you’re facing great athletes, with the speed that’s in the NFL who are chasing these guys, unless you’re superhuman, you’re going to get hurt sooner or later — not hurt, but beat up and bruised up,” Arians added. “And you don’t want your quarterback feeling bruised up when he’s trying to throw and be accurate.”
The topic came up because Arians is readying to face Chip Kelly’s option-inflected Eagles attack.
Well, first of all, Bruce Arians, your terminology is wrong, hot shot.
“I don’t think it’s an offense, I think its a play. And we don’t run read option if you want to get really technical. We run a zone-read play every once and a while,” Kelly said. “It’s just like saying our offense is a power offense because we run the power play.
“I try to say this all the time. Here’s our offense. We run the see-coast offense. If we see something, OK, and we like it, and we think it fits, we’re going to run it. The Philadelphia Eagles run the see-coast offense. Let’s run with that today, and we’ll go from there.”
The Eagles are first in the NFL in yards per play, with 6.3. Ahead of the Broncos. They’re way up there in yards per carry and yards per attempt. They’re doing this with a previously-ignored quarterback, one good, but one-dimensional receiver, a marginally-talented racist (and a great running back). Chip Kelly’s offense, whatever you call it, is working. If you’d like to make fun of the Eagles, you should probably make fun of their defense.
You also shouldn’t make fun of someone’s offense when yours is quarterbacked by Carson Palmer.
