From The Store: Ocho’s Signature, Before He Was Ocho

In case you haven’t heard, we’ve opened a store, and we’ll be highlighting some of our products from time to time in a running feature called “Buy Now.” Today: this signed 8×10 photo featuring a typically flamboyant TD from the once-typically flamboyant Chad Johnson.

As the baseball season mercifully kicks back into gear tonight, we are finally free and clear of the terrifying two-day period where there were NO SPORTS ON TV.

There is one of these horrible black voids on every calendar, and the ways that nature chooses to fill it can get a little weird. In 2010, for example, it was filled in possibly the skankiest way possible: with the series premiere of Chad Ochocinco’s The Ultimate Catch.

The Ultimate Catch, of course, was the thing that finally, unmistakably signaled Ocho had jumped some kind of shark, that his attempts to become something more than a football player (successful or not) had put him in a different category for football’s most devoted fans.

And this was a shame, because prior to all the off-field shenanigans, the injuries and the disgruntlement, Chad Johnson could ball. Nobody could cover him, a simple fact that was made even sweeter because he would proclaim that fact, week after week after week. Remember those times with this signed photo, and rejoice at the return of sports.
