Channing Crowder’s Strange NFL Journey Looks Like It Just Ended

Channing Crowder‘s career in the NFL has been anything but normal.
In 2007, he claimed to not be capable of locating London on a map. In 2009, he made homophobic remarks towards the New Orleans Saints and feuded with Rex Ryan. In 2010, he confused Helen Keller with Anne Frank. And just a few months back, he let the world know that he may or may have not broke some rules when he was in college.
So maybe it should come as no surprise that Crowder has decided to retire at what should be the beginning of the prime of his career. What is surprising is that Crowder, who’s played six NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins, has a good explanation for his early retirement.
“I woke up, saw my pregnant wife, and all the teams talking to me are way up North, and I said, ‘I don’t want to do it,’ ” Crowder said on the Sid Rosenberg Show. “I looked at my wife and said, ‘Nah, I’m going to be a family man now.’ “
With an offer on the table to join Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots, though, we wouldn’t be shocked to see him go the way of Ricky Williams, who just signed up for his fifth NFL season since “retiring” in 2004. Oh, you NFLers and your false promises to leave forever.
