Conan O’Brien Explains To Bob Costas Why Touchdown Dances Are Necessary: “It Makes Football More Fun”
A few weeks ago, Bob Costas delivered a now-infamous monologue on Sunday Night Football that decried touchdown celebrations in the NFL. The speech, which criticized endzone dances (and managed to sneak in more than a few points on the general decline of society), drew widespread internet attention, mostly for its smug nature.
Last night, Costas visited Conan O’Brien’s late night show to plug his new book, and to discuss that monologue. Costas, to his credit, raised some good points about excessive celebrations costing teams penalty yards — namely, that they shouldn’t be tolerated. Conan, meanwhile, returned serve with one very simple, and very obvious fact: touchdown dances are fun. And people like fun things, Bob.
