Darrelle Revis Is Out For The Year With A Torn ACL

Seriously bad news for Jets fans, Jets defense fantasy owners, and people who like to see great football players stay healthy enough to play football: Darrelle Revis will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Revis suffered the injury against the Dolphins yesterday and there were immediate fears that he might be seriously hurt, but confirmation didn’t arrive until today.

Needless to say (but we’ll say it anyway), this is a massive loss for the Jets. Revis is generally regarded as the best cornerback in the NFL – indeed, one of the league’s best players regardless of position – and there’s almost no way the Jets’ defense won’t suffer as a result. Rex Ryan had this to say on the injury:

“Obviously that’s a significant injury and it’s something that we’re going to have to overcome as a football team. For him I feel bad about it because he’s such a great player and a great teammate.”

Even Rex can’t put a positive spin on this one. For now, Revis will wait a couple weeks, then undergo surgery, then ideally start patrolling Revis Island again in 2013. Until then, Kyle Wilson assumes replacement duty. No pressure, Kyle.
