Derek Anderson Flips Out on Reporter (Video)

Derek Anderson had a rough game last night. The Arizona Cardinals quarterback completed just 16 of 35 passes with no touchdowns and an interception, and his team lost to the 49ers 27-6, thereby not only losing their sixth straight game but also claiming sole possession of last place in the worst division in football.

So why was he seen laughing on the sidelines late in the game with offensive lineman Deuce Lutui? That’s what one reporter (apparently the Arizona Republic’s Kent Somers) wanted to know – and let the record show he asked the question as respectfully as possible, even taking pains to point out he didn’t mean to be “sarcastic or pointed” – he was just looking for an answer.

But whatever amused Anderson on the sidelines had stopped seeming funny to him by that point, and…well, he pretty much lost it. He called it “nobody else’s business,” kept repeating “that’s fine” to try and make the question go away, said he wasn’t laughing about anything (well, maybe he wasn’t technically laughing, but he sported an awfully big smile while talking to Lutui), then started yelling about how seriously he takes football and how he puts his heart and soul into it. A couple bleeps later, he walked off.

Well, if Anderson’s tirade taught us one thing, it’s that he definitely didn’t enjoy last night’s loss as much as he enjoyed that one moment. And if this whole episode will teach Anderson one thing, it’s that even when you’re upset over a tough loss, you’ve got to keep your cool…because you’ll be seeing this video clip for a long time.

One final note: The Big Lead’s Jason McIntyre called this “the best post-MNF press conference meltdown since Dennis Green.” And that really begs the question: what is it about the Cardinals and great Monday Night Football freakouts? In any case, it’s safe to say last night’s matchup gave us more entertainment than we bargained for.
