Erin Andrews Visits Good Morning America To Talk Head Injuries In Football (Video)

If you watched football this weekend, you probably saw or heard about either devastating injuries, or dangerous hits with the potential to cause them. Among them were this penalized shot at the Eagles’ DeSean Jackson, and Rutgers’ Eric LeGrand sustaining an injury that left him with no movement below his neck (which we hope, hope, hope is temporary).

It was a rough weekend for the sport injury- and cheap-shot-wise, and today, Good Morning America examined the issue in a bit more depth with neurosurgeon Dr. Julian Bailes and contributor/ESPN reporter Erin Andrews.

They emphasized the danger of special teams, where players can run freely for a longer time (and build up more of a head of steam in the process). In fact, Andrews said the consensus among people in football she talked to was that if they’d like to see rule changes in any part of the game, it would be special teams.

Bailes, for his part, says the game needs “a culture change” that has to start in the NFL to set the trend for lower levels to follow, and that he’d welcome the new league policy to suspend anyone penalized for a “devastating” and/or helmet-to-helmet hit. We have to deduct a few points in his case, though, for referring to LeGrand as “Eric LeMond.”
