Former NFL Coach Rides Awkward Train To Discomfortville For Radio Interview (Video)

Jim Mora Jr. was a head coach in the NFL for several years, with the Falcons and Seahawks. Back in his Falcons days, he coached a pre-dogfighting Michael Vick. Given Vick’s remarkable resurgence with the Eagles this year, Colin Cowherd’s radio program thought it might be interesting to chat Mora up about Vick. However, Cowherd was not hosting, and fill-in host Doug Gottlieb talked to Mora instead. This did not go well.

The trouble started when Gottlieb asked Mora if it “bum[s him] out at all” that Vick supposedly wasn’t as dedicated to becoming a great all-around quarterback in Atlanta as he is now. Mora asked Gottlieb a question back: “Do you know anything about this guy’s background?” Off to a fine start.

Somehow, it went downhill even more from there, with Mora telling Gottlieb that he’s “not living in the past, pal. You might, but…I’m just happy for Mike.” But it was a question about what Mora felt the proper Philadelphia fan reaction for Donovan McNabb would be that caused him to drop even the slightest hint of civility:

“Is this your first interview? Jesus Christ, what kind of questions are these?”

And, okay…the “bum you out” wording didn’t exactly make him sound like the most seasoned pro, and asking Mora how people should react as if he’s the arbiter of proper personal conduct was a bit strange. But we also feel kind of bad for Gottlieb too, because he wasn’t even supposed to host this program, and…wow, this was a train wreck.

Video of that train wreck below. Crazy interview moments apparently run in Mora’s family.
