“Inside The NFL” Stages Surreal Debate With Guest Jimmy McMillan (Video)

Inside The NFL decided to give us its own spin on election season last night. To do this, they had Cris Collinsworth and Phil Simms argue their positions on various football-related issues in a mock debate, in order to decide who would be more fit to become NFL commissioner.

Of course, mostly they riffed on the commissioner’s exorbitant salary, with Collinsworth promising to send fans checks for $1,000 on several occasions…and dancing. Simms, for his part, told anyone who derisively refers to the NFL as the “No Fun League” needs to “shut up.” Collinsworth also said he supported a lockout, because then Cowboys fans could watch highlights of their early-mid ’90s glory years on the giant screen at Cowboys Stadium.

And if all this doesn’t sound weird enough, they had a panel asking questions. Among the members: Warren Sapp, former NFL GM Michael Lombardi…and failed New York gubernatorial candidate Jimmy McMillan of “The Rent Is Too Damn High” Party.

Truthfully, the entire segment was so strange that McMillan’s appearance might have been one of its more down-to-earth parts. He asked Simms if quarterbacks should wear skirts, name-checking fabled Rams defensive end Deacon Jones in the process. And, of course, he got to say “The Rent Is Too Damn High” a couple times, and everyone laughed too much at it.

You should probably just watch the video above, as only it can give you the full picture of how weird all of this was.
