Watch Poor Colt McCoy Almost Get Beheaded By James Harrison

Last night’s Browns-Steelers game featured a good deal of pain. Ben Roethlisberger played with a sprained ankle. Steelers safety Troy Polamalu was spotted on the sideline getting a teammate to pull his arm practically out of it socket – presumably, something wasn’t feeling right there. And Steeler linebacker James Harrison did what James Harrison does: dish out devastating (if also illegal) hits. The unlucky recipient last night was Browns quarterback Colt McCoy:

RELATED: And the new controversy: did this hit give McCoy a concussion?

Harrison didn’t like the call, but has Harrison ever liked the call when it’s been against him? Looked to us like a pretty clear helmet-to-helmet shot. But that’s James Harrison. You take the bad (these penalties) with the good (on-field dominance/intimidation). Opponents might not like it, and opponents’ families might not like it either. Hard to blame them, especially with the specter of head injuries always looming over the NFL. But it’s clear Harrison’s not going to change…and since the Steelers are 10-3 and he’s a vital cog in that machine, it’s hard to deny the Harrison Way works pretty well.

Even though it’s old school, new rules are in place to protect the players, when is Harrison going to learn, if no suspension occurs, then the commish is truly a puppet

he should be suspended for the rest of the season including playoffs.

The NFL should just give all the players flags and dresses, then start signing 25 year contracts.

Harrison needs to get it figured out.  Quit calling for dresses and that crap.  The players today are bigger and stronger than ever. Everyone should be protected.  Make a hit, make a tackle, but stay away from the head.

You all do realize that Harrison has made the necessary adjustments…he was fined several times early last year and since then has played within the bounds of the adjusted rules.   I would also interject…Colt McCoy made himself a defenseless player by jumping/skipping when he flipped the ball to the sideline.  Incidentally, that raised his helmet level and when he came down…just before Harrison pasted him…his helmet was lowered into harm’s way.  Frankly, I didn’t see anything illegal about the hit.  Harrison’s post game interpretation of the rules were correct and if the NFL wants to eliminate this type of hit then they need to cleanup the rulebook…not James Harrison.
