Jessica Simpson Sure Likes Those NFLers – Now Dating Retired 49ers TE Eric Johnson

Remember the Jessica Simpson-Tony Romo romance, and how your heart ached last year at the news it was over? Well, she’s got a new (not-quite-as) torrid football romance for you to follow – this time, she’s paired up with ex-NFL tight end Eric Johnson, and our friends at Gossip Cop confirmed the reports.

Johnson was a promising young player with the San Francisco 49ers and later, for one season, the New Orleans Saints. He enjoyed his best season in 2004 with the 49ers, catching 82 passes for 825 yards, but his career was done in by numerous injuries (he missed the entire 2003 and 2005 seasons).

He gamely bounced back from the injuries to play solidly in 2006 and for New Orleans in 2007, only to be released in 2008 due to even more injuries. So hey, maybe he was due for a break!

To recap – Jessica Simpson loses one NFL player, but snags another. Not as big a star this time, but Johnson went to Yale, which was probably a big deal for Jessica. And Eric Johnson is even responsible for the acclaimed song “Cliffs of Dover”!

…Whoops. Sorry. Wrong Eric Johnson. Still: good job, you two! Manny happy returns. Like, um, this.
