How To Not Win Over Voters At A San Francisco Rally: Say The 49ers Are Going To Lose

When Michele Bachmann wore a half-Iowa, half-Iowa-State jersey to a tailgate, that was pandering. When Sheriff Joe Arpaio tried to endorse Rick Perry to a crowd of Iowans by referring to them as “Buckeyes,” that was an unfortunate mix-up. Well, Vice President Joe Biden’s gaffe yesterday in San Francisco might have been worse than either. Biden knew the 49ers play the Giants this weekend for a spot in the Super Bowl. So far, so good. But then, he tried to fire up the crowd:

“[T]he Giants are on their way to the Super Bowl.”

Yes, he was booed.

Sure, Biden quickly tried to recover, explaining he got San Francisco’s football and baseball teams mixed up. Still..oof. This had it all, from the pandering – you think he’d tell a New York crowd that the Niners were winning this weekend? – to the hilarious mistake. Really, Biden’s best defense here is that he does this stuff all the time (maybe even enough for it to be a big f—ing deal).

He does it so often, in fact, that this report compiled a list of cringeworthy Biden episodes (our favorite: “Biden introduced the future president as Barack America”), while this one attached a video of some of Biden’s best/worst statements through the years. It was so good, in fact, that it’s embedded below. If Obama does worse than expected in the San Francisco area in November, maybe we’ll have a new one to add.
