Jon Gruden Illustrates Drew Brees’ Greatness With Journey Reference (Video)

In the last minute of last night’s 25-22 victory over the 49ers, Saints quarterback Drew Brees expertly led a drive that resulted in the game-winning field goal. It was an impressive (though soul-crushing for 49er fans) display, one that so impressed announcer Jon Gruden that in describing it the next day, he had to reach back 30 years to properly describe the performance.

In talking about last night’s game on a SportsCenter segment today with fellow commentators Ron Jaworski and Mike Tirico, Gruden couldn’t hide his admiration for Brees’ ability to perform in any number of circumstances:

“When I watch Drew Brees it’s like a Journey concert, you know, it’s any way you want it, and he’s really awesome in a two-minute drill.”

Jaworski and Tirico were clearly amused – and probably taken aback – at Gruden’s analogy, and Tirico mockingly thanked him for sharing his musical knowledge. Apparently Gruden’s famous football obsession still leaves some room for outside interests.

Video of Gruden’s unexpected reference below. And with Brees at the helm, you can bet the Saints never stop believin’.
