Fox Business Tries To Corner Keyshawn Johnson, Keyshawn Johnson Wins (Video)

A while ago we looked at an appearance on Fox Business’ Varney & Co. by three NBA players, where they planned to promote a video game but wound up answering a bunch of questions about taxation first.

Yesterday, former NFL receiver/current ESPN analyst Keyshawn Johnson appeared on the same program, to similar results. Once again, the hosts began by attempting to create anti-tax sentiment, but Johnson didn’t take the bait, saying any voting decision he made would be about (gasp!) more than money.

The conversation turned to whether college athletes should be paid (Johnson said he thinks they should, but when pressed, wasn’t sure if everyone should get a stipend), and a new Captain Morgan promotional campaign Johnson’s involved with (ostensibly the reason he appeared on the show)…and like Andre Iguodala, Josh Smith, and Russell Westbrook before him, Johnson came out of the segment looking better than the hosts.

For the most part, those hosts merely seemed like they were trying to get Johnson to espouse anti-tax viewpoints so they could then brag about having done so, rather than have an actual discussion. (One question about whether Johnson would rather keep more money so he could direct funds to causes of his choosing got the conversation moving a bit, though.)

Certainly, if there’s one lesson we’ve learned from these two segments, it’s this: if you are appearing on Varney & Co., no matter what you’re there to promote, is it critical you be prepared to talk about taxes. Because one way or another, all roads will lead to that subject.
