Kyle Williams Fumbles Punt Return (Again), And Now The Giants Are Going To The Super Bowl

If you’re not a 49ers fan (and maybe even if you are), it’s tough not to feel bad for second-year receiver/return man Kyle Williams. First, he let the ball hit him on a return during the fourth quarter, giving the Giants a short field that they then turned into a go-ahead touchdown. Fortunately for Williams, the Niners came back to tie and send the game to overtime, sparing him goat status. Unfortunately for Williams, in overtime, he fumbled a punt again:

…and this time, the stakes were even higher. Given another gift, the Giants took advantage of the short field, kicker Lawrence Tynes hit a 31-yard field goal, and we have a Giants-Patriots Super Bowl rematch. Special teams miscues went a long way toward deciding the outcome of both of today’s games (remember that missed 32-yard field goal by the Ravens?), but given the fact that Williams was responsible for two turnovers that helped lead to the last 10 Giants points of the game, he had the worst night. And man…it’s hard to imagine any football player having a much tougher night than Williams.
